In 1996, Patek Philippe took an unexpected plunge into the world of bold design with the Neptune. One year before the launch of the Aquanaut, Patek experimented with another sport-luxury watch, the Neptune. As its name suggested, the watch was waterproof and inspired by the see.

The Neptune’s standout feature? An integrated bracelet that looked like shimmering fish scales, as if it was plucked straight from the ocean depths. Powered by traditional high end calibers, the Neptune was a true Patek that came in different combinations.

But despite its unique charm, the Neptune was an oddball in Patek’s lineup. It wasn’t quite the Calatrava, nor the Nautilus, and after a brief run, Patek retired it in 2005.

Yet, like all great underdogs, the Neptune found new life among collectors who appreciated its quirky blend of sophistication and playfulness. Add to that the tritium indexes and hands, the integrated bracelet and the 36 mm slim case and you might have the next big thing.
