Engraver

Watchmaking Jobs

An engraver makes incisions into metal to produce a design. In watchmaking, the engraver creates ornamental motifs on the dial, case back or movement bridges. These are often geometric, floral or depict animals, and can be in relief or hollowed. He/she works on steel, gold or platinum, or mother-of-pearl, using hand tools, a hand-operated or electronic engraving machine, or chemical etching. Engraving techniques include intaglio, ramolaye, dry point, engine-turning, fine line, chasing and taille douce.
