Montblanc continues its exploration of early twentieth-century observation watches with this original interpretation of multiple time-zone displays. Cased in bronze with a bidirectional rotating bezel, production is limited to 1858 pieces. Two vertically aligned domed globes on the dial represent the northern and southern hemispheres. They turn in opposite directions, completing one rotation every 24 hours to show world time with a day/night indication. A second time zone is given at 9 o’clock, across from a date window at 3 o’clock. Hands, indices and the land masses on the two globes are coated with lume so that indications are easily read in low light conditions.Turning the case over reveals a depiction of the Gobi Desert, in honour of the solo trek made in 2004 by Montblanc ambassador Reinhold Messner. This realistic rendition is achieved by laser-etching the structured titanium surface to create a three-dimensional effect, then giving each surface a matte or glossy finish. Colour is imparted by laser-generated oxidation of the titanium, varying the level of oxidation to obtain different shades.
