Big Bang Unico Red Magic

While ceramic may have entered the horological mainstream, appreciated for its resilience as well as its excellent scratch- and corrosion-resistance, brightly coloured ceramics had so far eluded manufacturers for the simple reason that pigments burn beyond a certain temperature. Leave it to Hublot, a brand renowned for its research into new alloys and composite materials – such as Magic Gold, introduced in 2011 -, to take up the challenge. The Big Bang Unico Red Magic, unveiled at Baselworld, sports a vivid red ceramic case and bezel. Red is, according to Hublot, the colour of "power, passion and glory". Four years in development, this new process leaves the door wide open for Hublot to introduce more innovative colours. As an added bonus, this patented new ceramic is harder than its traditional counterparts – hence the new machining techniques Hublot had to develop.
