Big Bang Unico Sapphire

Barely a year after demonstrating its capacity to machine sapphire cases on a large scale, Hublot strikes again, this time with blue sapphire: an achievement not to be underestimated, given the complexity and unpredictability of fusing synthetic sapphire. Undaunted, Hublot has developed a sophisticated and costly process for producing a large, transparent sapphire with a perfectly uniform colour. Aluminium oxide and chromium are melted at a temperature in the region of 2,000 to 2,500°C to produce the blue sapphire – an unprecedented colour in watchmaking – for the bezel, case middle and back of the Big Bang Unico Sapphire. A wide opening shows off the mechanics of the Unico HUB124 movement with, visible on the dial side, the column wheel for the flyback chronograph.
