Matte yellow gold and an open back: two features of this Black Bay Fifty-Eight 18K that set it apart in Tudor’s collections. This is, indeed, the first time the brand has used this precious metal for the case of its emblematic dive watch. It’s also the first occurrence in the collection of a sapphire caseback as a showcase for the workings of the in-house MT5400 movement with automatic winding. So, plenty to please vintage watch fans who are sure to notice the multiple allusions to Tudor’s 1950s dive watches, in particular the Big Crown model that was released in 1958, starting with the 39mm diameter — a characteristic size for a mid-century watch — and the yellow gold Snowflake hands that sweep the green dial. This precious and no less robust model is fitted on a green textile strap, highlighted by a thin gold stripe along its middle.
