Having supplied the US Navy with dive watches since the late 1950s, in 1967 Tudor started working on a technical model to replace the Oyster Prince Submariner 7928 that was then standard issue. This new watch had to meet US government specifications and incorporate the results of the latest research by the brand’s engineers. A development phase was launched that led to a first prototype and a patent for a hitherto unseen function: a system for locking and disassembling the bezel. The original project never saw daylight but it did inspire this Black Bay P01 which includes a stop system for the bidirectional rotating bezel via a mobile end-link at 12 o'clock. Water-resistant to 200 metres, it is equipped with the in-house MT5612 calibre with COSC chronometer certification; a robust, reliable movement that is built to last.
