Blast Moonstruck
Like all watches that display advanced astronomical indications, the Blast Moonstruck is intended as a miniature extrapolation of the remarkable turret clocks of the late Middle Ages. Descended from the trilogy of astronomical watches that originated, from 1985, in the mind of Ludwig Oechslin, it leaves aside the Copernican representation of the solar system in favour of a more easily readable geocentric model. In addition to local time and the time in the 24 main time zones, this Blast Moonstruck incorporates a precision moon-phase display combined with a complication that tracks the position of the sun. The Northern hemisphere seen from above the North Pole is etched on the inside of a crystal which in turn is set into a sapphire crystal box. Moon phases are represented by a moon inside an aperture, set at the highest point of an ellipse that rotates once around the dial in 29 days, 12 hours and 44 minutes (a synodic month). This same moon also changes position over the course of the lunar month. True to Ludwig Oechslin’s wish to transpose part of the cosmos to the wrist, the Blast Moonstruck renders complex information in a manner that is easily understood.
