Grand Planetarium Eccentric Manufacture
Christiaan van der Klaaw celebrates fifty years of astronomical complications with the Grand Planetarium Eccentric Manufacture: the first ever mechanical watch to display the real-time orbits of eight planets – Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune – around the Sun. Their eccentric paths mirror reality as accurately as possible, from the 87.97 days it takes Mercury to orbit the Sun to the 164.8 years for Neptune.
To achieve this, Christiaan van der Klaaw has developed its most complex movement to date, its many gears totalling an astounding 3,338 teeth. Providing 60 hours of power reserve, it sits inside a 44mm platinum case beneath a dial in the brand’s signature aventurine.
