This ultra lightweight version of Lo Scienziato, Panerai's tribute to Galileo Galilei, respects all the functions of hours, minutes, small seconds, GMT over 24 hours, six-day power reserve with indicator on the back, and tourbillon escapement. Innovation comes in how Panerai has used titanium to construct the case with a technique known as direct metal laser sintering. This process builds a 3D object using successive layers of powdered titanium, each 0.02 mm thick, which are fused together by a fibre laser into the required solid form. The titanium bridges and plate of the skeletonised movement reduce weight by a further 35%.
