Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater Carbon

Traditional watchmaking meets high-mech. In 2016, the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater set a record for thinness with a movement just 3.12mm high. The 2018 version uses the same movement inside a case made from CTP carbon – a thermo-setting epoxy resin reinforced with carbon fibre that has the advantage of being highly resistant. The case comprises very thin layers of carbon (CTP stands for Carbon Thin Ply) and measures just 6.85mm high. This polymer also presents a second, unexpected quality in that it has excellent acoustic properties, thanks to which this minute repeater has a loud and clear chime. Incisions in the dial around the subsidiary seconds and in place of the hour markers amplify the sound. The circular gongs are attached directly to the case, again for enhanced sound transmission. The entire watch weighs just 47 grams.
