Pebble
Cartier returns to an icon of Swinging London and an intensely creative period for the brand that produced the likes of the Crash, the Maxi Oval, the Double Strap and, in 1972, the Pebble – now revived as a 150-piece limited edition. The roundness of the case juxtaposed with the square shape of the dial, pivoted 90 degrees, is typical of the idiosyncratic aesthetic of the Sixties and early Seventies. For this fiftieth anniversary reissue, Cartier has retained many of the original’s characteristics. A lugless case in yellow gold frames an eggshell-coloured dial, swept by blued sword-shaped hands for the hours and minutes and with Cartier’s secret signature. Inside the pebble-smooth case ticks the 430 MC calibre; an extra-thin (2.1mm high) manual-winding movement that is derived from the Piaget 430P.
