When first presented, the Harmonious Oscillator was acclaimed as an invention on a par with Breguet’s tourbillon. The movement’s two balances are connected by teeth cut into their rims to guarantee the same amplitude for both. They rotate in opposite directions and the two springs breathe “in opposition” (one expands while the other contracts). This constantly opposed symmetry and energy enables instantaneous average correction in a vertical position. Such a mechanical feat is matched by the standard of craftsmanship displayed in the hand-finished movement decoration. The mainplate features tapered pyramid guillochage while the bridges are hand-chamfered with 40 interior angles. Hand-engraving on the movement is mirrored by the hand-engraved and Grand Feu enamel motif on the back of the case, which is designed by Eric Giroud and crafted from pink gold with a sapphire crystal dome.
