Submersible Elux Lab-ID
As supplier to the Italian Navy, Panerai’s wristwatches (just one part of its offer) used Radiomir and Luminor for luminescence, hence the name of its emblematic collections. However, Panerai also took advantage of Elux, an electroluminescent technology patented in 1966 that was particularly suited to underwater instruments that require enhanced visibility in low light conditions. Now Panerai has introduced Elux to a Submersible wristwatch. The brand has integrated a microgenerator into this automatic mechanical watch to power an electroluminescent micro-LED display. Six barrels equip Calibre P.9010/EL which runs at 4Hz (28,800 vibrations/hour): two for timekeeping with a 72-hour power reserve and four to generate the power to light up the 12 indices, hands and bezel. Activated on demand, this Power Light function glows continuously for up to 30 minutes. A linear indicator shows the remaining energy available. Measuring 49mm in diameter and 21.9mm high, the 500-metre water-resistant case is in Blue Ti-CeramitechTM: ceramised titanium that is 44% lighter than steel, has greater scratch-resistance than conventional titanium alloys and a fracture toughness ten times that of traditional ceramic.
