Tambour Taiko Spin Time Flying Tourbillon
Louis Vuitton returns to its Spin Time complication, first seen in 2007 with the time shown on jumping rotating cubes. The Geneva-based La Fabrique du Temps, part of the Louis Vuitton fold since 2011, has developed the Tambour Taiko capsule collection of six 50-piece limited editions. One of them, the Tambour Taiko Spin Time Flying Tourbillon, stands out for the central position of the titular flying tourbillon — a construction that implied important modifications to the automatic base movement. The resulting LFT ST05.01 calibre contains the regulating organ in a cage shaped as the brand’s Monogram flower, reflected in a mirror-polished plate beneath it. A consequence of this re-engineered architecture, the minute hand has been moved to a rotating disk around the tourbillon while hours are still shown on the Spin Time complication’s rotating cubes. Beating at 4 Hz or 28,800 vibrations/hour and with 45 hours of power reserve, the movement is housed in a white gold case that measures 42.5mm across and 12.45mm high.
