Metiers D'Art
The Villeret collection lends itself to creating one-of-a-kind models fitted with dials made using a traditional Japanese technique: plates made of shakudō (a copper and gold alloy) are patinated by coatings of rokushō (a copper acetate solution) that results in lighter or darker shades with subtle black, blue or brown nuances, depending on the number of layers. To adorn them, Blancpain uses the technique of inlaying with gold wires, or damascening, as well as adding a hand-engraved applique. This model depicts Ganesh, the Hindu divinity with an elephant’s head. The broad 45 mm diameter ensures that the artisans’ work is shown to its best advantage.
